The ending is the journey, without the ending the rest of the film does not make any sense.That's not true of all things, M Shamamalyanamamam films could just be dull sub standard horror films without the endings. However Oldboy does not make any sense without the ending, the whole thing leads purely to the ending and the reason he was imprisoned.
