I don't understand what people's problem is with ityes, the cut scenes are long, but so are the gameplay sequences.

It's not that they're long,it's that they're so frequent, especially early in the game.
I got fed up watching my flatmate play it, and it takes a LOT for me to get fed up enough to go and do something else.
It may improve later on I guess, but it lost me.
