True. My grandad was a copper in Dublin in the 20s and 30s and fought against the fledgling
Irish Fascist Movement, not just cos it was his job but because he believed in fighting fascism. And yes, he moved steadily to the right till he became a right old racist. Called an African girlfriend I had when I was 16 or so a 'piccaninny' to her face, which was a laugh and a half, I can tell you. And of course, like all Irishmen of that era, was very anti-English...
