as soon as someone says 'socialism' everyone scatters, screamingbut so many of our good ideas are socialist in nature. it stems from the need to take care of everybody and not just those who are fortunate enough to be able to pay for everything

I'd go further and say that there are some socialist ideals, the NHS included,which can actually serve to stabilize a Capitalist economy and make a country stronger. It's a sad state of affairs where options which could improve peoples' lives have to be rejected just on the basis of dogma or fears of unpopularity.
