but I feel it's a violation of privacy to have the CIA know lots of things about me... and I don't imagine that their intentions for the data are very benign

My answer to certain suspicious friends
is that, unless a serious threat is indicated, they do not have the people to do anything with it. However, the US has been using intelligence to aid their companies for years.
