# yeah, it's xp installer...
so there's no way of burning the SATA or RAID drivers or whatever they are onto a CD?

And if not, how do I get my hands on an external floppy drive, if there is such a thing?

Cheers

# yes, you can slipstream an xp installation cd
I don't know how, because my XP-FU is weak

you can get usb floppies but I have no idea if the xp disk will pick them up

if it can make sure you enable usb/usb legacy etc in the bios

unless of course you have a board that still has a floppy socket on it

# First step
is to make sure the BIOS finds the drive...del after boot, check it's on auto detect, if you get the option then do the detections on the BIOS screen, see what it finds. If not, just watch it boot.

If it finds them, then you're right: XP's being shitty about the drivers. XP's driver support out of the box defys physics, in that it sucks AND blows.

But you do get the option of pressing F8 (I think) and giving it a CD of drivers.

Just take a breath and read what's on the screen. Something about 'giving it a disk of SCSI drivers', iirc...

Good luck Dude :-)

# right, I'll look into finding all these drivers and I'll try to somehow introduce them to my PC on a CD
Thanks for all your kind help, B3ta,

You'll all get virtual cayke once this nightmare is over.

# Mmmmmmmmm, soft, tasty cake
And a cup of tea :-)

All the thanks and nourishment a good B3tan should need.

btw, reading your other post...don't waste too much time digging out drivers until your BIOS can see the drive. This is the source of all the gremlin's power.

# hahaha
Right... still a bit overwhelmed by all this insanity, I'll mess around with it a bit and I'll see how I get on.

You've all been a great help, cheers :)

# External floppies do exist
And not just after ten pints.
ahem.
Ebay should have a few and you might even be able to pick up a new one at PC World or somewhere like that.

Just replaced the German keyboard on my laptop with a UK one (from Greece, funnily enough). Not too bad considering I know bugger all about computers...
