My favorite painting I have seen up close (like about 3 inches away) is still 'Garden of Earthly Delights' - saw it at the Prado just after restoration! It does help to see it that close - there is so much tiny detail.

The first time I saw a print of thatI refused to believe how old the painting was. It reminded me of a cross between Monty Python and Salvadore Dali.
