Curiously haunting / poignant / bittersweet expression in his eyes though. God, think of all the people who've really loved, through the ages. Just history to us, but seeing a picture like this makes me think that all the silly Camelot-type knight-and-damsel fluffy images might be a pathetic pastiche of what the blokes and lasses actually felt for each other. Off to the crusades and stuff. Crippled in the tournament. Who knows...
