I think (cos I haven't seen it)that it would have been a very different film had it been set in Britain and the USA, since it's very critical of India (i think cos I haven't seen it).

white people living in the slums of Mumbai?not just controversial, but somewhat confusing. Although - I have often thought that a screenplay in which white/black cultures are reversed would be quite revealing, i.e.
African dictatorships such as Zimbabwe and disaster areas such as Darfur shown with white people as the victims, while the rich Black Western nations sit back and do very little about them.
