To be fair thoughthat's the whole point of the story. It tells itself in the comic by means of 'flashback' so I'm not sure that 'put up with' is a good term as it would be expected and impossible to tell the story without.

indeed, it's a part of the storybut in adapting it for the movie, they could have cut it to under 90 minutes of backstory. It would have felt more suited to a cinema audience then, and could have shaved off a good 15 minutes of the running time.
