A Great Mood In That Picture!Engravings are cool. I believe it's engraving board that's white and is painted black. You scrape the black parts away.

closetake a piece of wood, and cut out anything you want to be white. use a roller (a brayer) to ink up the surface of the wood. Apply paper, rub the paper, typically with a wooden spoon or something similar, and pull off the paper... engraving is a bit different, where you force ink into the grooves, and the surface is clean, so you get your image that way.
