If you arrange it before the event then that's fine,
but if a stranger deliberately ran over my terminally ill cat, saving me a trip to the vet, I wouldn't be likely to laud their behavior.

No, but on the whole it is not a selfless act, but a selfish one.
It's something humans have done since they could make a mark, but then that can be said of violence too.
