We've got the only one in Switzerland that regularly is used for chemistry (apart from the one at the EPFL). It means I collaborate like a Frenchman.
It's basically a generator. You have a coil and you move a sample in it, thus it generates an electric current. Except it uses superconductors everywhere and (in some models) can detect as few as ten atoms changing their state at a time.
But, for all of this, it's just two large boxes in my lab with a computer on it...
