I was hoping you'd say no...
Klandathu is a rocky planet situated on the other side of the Galaxy to us. It is inhabited by bugs that have started an interstellar war with Earth... there are more bugs than there are humans... if we voluntarily reduce our total population then the ratio of bugs:humans will be stacked more in their favour and they might win the war...

and be surprised that they are intelligent when we get to their planet and are bombarded with plasma poo, despite the fact they had enough smarts to throw rocks at us from across the fucking galaxy... but then Denise Richards.....
\edit oh and the fact that if they wanted to target our planet with rocks thrown from theirs, even if they lobbed them at the speed of light they would take at least 100,000 years to get here.....
