I think the idea is to try to keep the population at a managable/supportable level,rather than continuing to increase it exponentially in the hope that our resources will increase in the same manner.

theres a current theory..that 5/6ths of the globe will have regressive populations in 20 years (65 nations do now apparently). Its the 1/6th that's the biggest challenge as its the poorest and has least ability to deal with the issue

Certainly, it's a difficult problem.Particularly as if done wrong it'll lead to an ageing population unable to support itself.
But I don't see ignoring the problem and hoping it'll go away as a reasonable response.

wait, I got a solution......reinstating slavery legally on a world scale!
