Proper self hypnosis or the rubbish kind which doesn't actually work?

Because I find the proper self hypnosis difficult because you know your own moves, much like that fight between the two leelas in Futurama.

I record it, albeit badly because I hate the sound of my own voice, and it will tenuously work on myself.

I think I'm just too stubborn though seeing as other people's recording generally work even less well.
