I recall having my wallet stolen the week I had just been issued a new MBNA platinum card with a £32K limit. A guy and his girlfriend ( friends of the thief ) were caught on camera using it, for the first time in a garage where the girlfriend worked getting £20 worth of petrol and a Daily Mirror.
Way to milk that credit limit Einstein ;)

They were using a hot card, in a place where one of them worked, for petrol for a car, presumably with a number plate, that will certainly be on CCTV?
I presume they got away scot free then...

It really was a big pain in the arse for me actually.
Happened in Manchester where my wallet was stolen by the brother of a woman who's bed I should not have been anywhere near and when they were caught I was back in Hammersmith and had to do all my police interviews there whilst trying to juggle two sets of lies so my wife did not find out where the fuck my wallet had been.
But yeah, they were criminal masterminds indeed. I think they bought the card so were out of pocket before getting caught. The police had more fun watching me squirm when it came to recounting the evening's events for the 100th time.

I used to sell marine electronics and a bloke came in with a brand new fish-finder he wanted to sell to us.
He clearly didn't even know what it was. A quick call to the manufacturer revealed they'd just had a break-in, the serial number matched, and the old bill were chatting with him within five minutes.
Oh dear, his sonar didn't see the sharks circling...
