an ex-nearly-girlfriend of mine got headhunted for a job on The Times via twitter.
When she delightedly told me, it felt like the end of the world.
So I congratulated her, and kept the tears for later.

Woah!
How did you know the title of the publication I work for?

My wife was headhunted
by Deloitte and Touche some years back. ( not on any internet validation site ) She declined their job offer ( and 170% salary raise with lucrative package ) to stay working in the charity sector.
I don't think I kept the tears at bay for long ;)

no reason to do otherwise.

Remember the stuff about adopting a less threatening tone toward the younger ones?
Threaten us old bastads instead. We can laugh.

you talk about that music stuff with like minded chaps don't you?
I'm listening to a Brooklyn band called 'Oxford Collapse"
It's not the worst sound in the world.

I talk about music to anyone I can.
Oxford Collapse? Aren't they on Subpop?
I'll have a little listen after my current album has finished.

I have no idea what subpop is mate.
You know me, I don't keep up with this stuff.
It just so happens I got an invite to WhatCD ( which along with Waffles is just about the top end of private bit torrenting for music ) and I picked it up out of interest. Album is remember the night parties, from 2006.
I had Ry Cooder on previously and then I have Astrud Gilberto cued up so I'm no barometer for quality and taste.

I'm a member of what.cd myself, but I rarely use it - I tend to use mediafire to download music.
Just had a listen to the MP3s on Subpop. Seems pleasant enough just not really anything exceptionally special. Perhaps I listened to the wrong tracks?
Edit: and with regards to what/waffles, I preferred Oink :(

It's not great stuff
to be honest and as i get further into the album it's becoming more standard US guitar band in a Green Day fashion which id not my thing. I think I spoke too soon and they fooled me with the opening tracks.

Sub Pop is an establihed, Seattle-based record label.
It's famous for giving the world Mudhoney, Dwarves, Tad and other well-known turns.
One overrated turn in particular.

I happen to think that
the output of Nirvana was nothing more than run of the mill American drivel.
Not in the slightest the kind of noise I prefer.
