Sometimes I think we should just tax crimes like assault so we can do a recession buster on our crimes.

I was talking about this tonight.One of those Police programs showed some person who was caught driving a car with no tax or insurance or license. It all seemed to be treated like a big joke as the guy's car was confiscated and he was allowed to walk free to appear in court later.
He was already a banned driver and in charge of a potentially lethal machine!
I reckon they should have a specialist short-stay prison where the local constabulary can arrest and instantly incarcerate people like like that for 7 days minimum. Nothing fancy, a just a porta-loo sized box where they stick them for 7 days with nothing but dry bread and water. Not even light.
It'd take the pressure off the courts and might make a few of the repeat offenders learn to be more careful. Most of them don't give a hoot about the current system.
