# arf!
I'm farting around with Reason 4.0 when bored. The rest of my 'setup' only consists of a Soundblaster card with low-latency ASIO characteristics, a pair of AKG monitor headphones and a small USB midi keyboard.

# aha
I think a cheap midi keyboard should be my next purchase, i've been looking at reason as well, how is it?

# I really like it (maybe due to the fact that it's the only audio software I know in depth really)
you have a virtual rack and can put loads of synths, samplers, effect devices and so on into it and even turn it around to do the cabling. Nearest I'll ever get to owning real hardware :)
A friend who's really good at making digital music (as opposed to myself) mainly uses Ableton which seems also a good choice

Edit: big downside: no VSTs :(

# grah
I can't get on with Reason, too complicated for me (or at least it was 4 years ago)

my midi keyboard is very useful for occupying shelves under my desk

# luckily I had a friend to show me around Reason, otherwise I'd have had to give up really quickly too
