I'd say less open spaces, more confinded corridors with limited lighting will make it "feel" better.

And if it is open, try like flickering streetlights, or cars on fire and shit

# Can't, on account of the fact Left 4 Dead isn't supported in Garry's Mod.
Had to download a kinda fixed model pack for just those things.

No maps, and no npcs or anything really.
