I still don't quite understand why we wouldn't enforce the follow on?

i don't see that it's going to make much of a difference
either way, it's going to be approximately a 200 run lead to England.

Well yeah,
but say we go in and bat out today and till lunch tomorrow, leaving 450, 500 for you to go at, it leaves a lot less time for you to just hold out for the draw, which would be a massive blow for us.

I don't think australia have enforced a follow on since india beat us after following on
teams are scared of getting bowled out chasing 200. it's ridiculous.
