
This type of drawing (plain colors, no gradients) gets a whole lot smaller in (file)size when saved as .gif instead of .jpg while still maintaining best image quality.
Also, get rid of the HTML scaling and scale down your originals instead (you can still link to a larger version if you must). These steps should easily bring it down to under 100kb.

As I said, try using the gif format, here's one that's readable and only about 75k in size (using 64 colors). Alternatively, use higher jpg compression.
