Who would look at a script and see a bit that says "meathead picks you up and throws you 30 feet down onto a table" and go "Yeah, sounds fine by me"?

they do it because they enjoy 'fighting' or competing, it just so happens that in the wwe there is a script of sorts, the film 'the wrestler' pretty much nails it with regard to the script situation, there will be a bunch of stuff that needs to happen within a match, a path they need to take it down. Take The Undertaker throwing Mankind off the top of the cage, Mick Foley (mankind) had to convince the undertaker to do that to him, he had no idea that he would suffer a dislocated shoulder, a tooth getting knocked out and going up into his sinuses through his throat and coming out his nose, a badly bruised hip, biting all the way through his bottom lip, and a concussion. But I guess the thrill of it all is why they do it.
