Her house was worth 280,000. It sold at auction for 116,000. Now, I'm sure there will be cries of "Serves the silly bitch right", but look at her. She's obviously a bit mental. I think it all stinks of poo.

In the UK they can get a court order to force you to sell your home to pay the debt
But it's not seizing your house, you keep the rest of the proceeds.
Although Brown did redistribute our gold wealth out of the country when it was worth a pittance.

I was declared bankrupt last year
And the Receiver told me they rarely go for the house if you're willing to eventually pay, because judges just don't see it's in anyone's interests for the debtor to lose the house. Hard to get a job and pay off your debts living on the streets. It's basically a last resort, and still takes a good 18 months/2 years to happen even if your trustee is someone acting for your creditors (not recommended).
btw: don't go bankrupt, it's a fucking expensive business. I owed 6 grand, and after fees and practitioners and whatnot I'm paying off 18 thousand pounds.
