I'm by far the least adept guitar player (basically I suck)
but I once asked about putting wax on the strings at a guitar who and he got most offended and said that the screeching was just a natural part of the music and that you don't put wax on the strings. Well who am I to disagree? I can't play guitar for toffee and I have 2 of them. lol
