
It was indeed. There's a scene where UNIT are talking to Clara about how the Doctor has had an ongoing influence on the world...and we're shown a glass cabinet containing Captain Jack's vortex manipulator.
Originally the cabinet was supposed to contain posters and materials from the Cushing films, suggesting that an awareness of the Doctor's exploits had bled into pop culture and resulted in a bastardised retelling.
Nifty idea, but they couldn't secure the rights. :(
