Gave my Grandad our rabbit
to look after whilst we went on holiday.
When we got back he told us it had escaped into the fields behind his house.
He lied, he ate it.

I have a similar story, when I was a kid, a friend of mine had a rabbit. One day it wasn't there and I asked where it was, turns out they ate it for Sunday dinner :'(
