However, when a white, female author creates a rich fantasy world for teenagers, middle class adults rave about how the subtexts and themes make it relevant for adults too. When a black, male screenwriter creates a fictional TV show for teenagers, why is it so easy to dismiss the racist, white males raving about themes and subtexts?
