I've actually been in a crowd where we all did exactly the same. Joint friend, he had a crap girlfriend who a couple of us had seen snogging other guys, but we communally decided not to tell him because he'd likely get all defensive and disbelieve us over her saying she hadn't.
Then it all went down a month or two later, and he was pretty annoyed at us all for being so craven and not telling him earlier.
To be fair, we were all 19-20 at the time so being crap at relationships was part of the deal...
