I dunno. I found the whole article really weird.
It seemed to me he was saying that he and his girlfriend didn't say anything because being in Depp's social circle was more important to them than Depp's happiness, but now everything has gone to pot, we're going to stop being dishonest in order to bask in his reflected glory, and be honest and tell the truth because we have so much integrity and love him so much, but we knew all along the relationship was going to be highly detrimental to him. Frankly with friends like those, who needs enemies?

Lol.
Well I have in the past kept my distance when friends have had unpleasant partners rather than pretending everything was ticketty boo, but yes, it's not on to tell people that their choice of partner is bad. What is also not on is after the relationship ends in acrimony, to publicly say "I told everyone except you that it would all end in tears".

He does come off as craven in this article. Strange that he'd try to paint himself as some crusader at the end.

Still, he is funny as a comedian, but clearly loves being a friend with a mega star more than he actually likes the mega star.

I've actually been in a crowd where we all did exactly the same. Joint friend, he had a crap girlfriend who a couple of us had seen snogging other guys, but we communally decided not to tell him because he'd likely get all defensive and disbelieve us over her saying she hadn't.
Then it all went down a month or two later, and he was pretty annoyed at us all for being so craven and not telling him earlier.
To be fair, we were all 19-20 at the time so being crap at relationships was part of the deal...
