Austerity is scare word for British.
They just fucking hate the idea. So the idea itself is used as bludgeon. You say "Tory austerity" and I hear "I'm a little douchebag short and stout, here's my handle and here's my spout."
And again, as with similar discussions in the U.S., all weeds and no clear playing field, that is, nothing at all about representation in your so-called representative arrangement. Stuff it with talk about fear when you're deaf to talk about disgust. And Stayers fail to defend a big fat layer of governance slathered on top your own and taking it's place, remote and disinterested to your concerns, you are commodities to them, labor as numbers and not as people. The best government is the least government, small government closest to home where your voices are heard and where your voices count. And not blithely handed over to some set of fat cows, unworthy agents, who flatly do not care about you, your electric teapots, your toasters, the shape size and acceptable weight and color of your bananas.
You are so, so, so much better off making your own arrangements, and if they want to be tight with you then fine. Have them earn your loyalty and you theirs. You'll have your due respect.
