I heard his sister on R4 yesterday saying how worried she was
as it was so unlike him not to catch his flight and report in. She was then asked if he had gone missing before. She replied (paraphrased) "no, apart from the time he went missing for 3 months".

I watched the BBC night news in the day of his disappearance
And their defence correspondent Frank Gardner had just left him. He didn't seem at all worried and stated that although he was in a dangerous area where the isolated tribe can be violent he was capable and had probably got caught up in a ritual which he felt obliged to attend. He was implying "calm down, he's fine"
