I call it the paucity of explanation
you have a fact, perhaps true, that might have multiple credible explanations. They'll only consider the one that supports their conclusion and move on, and just do this again and again. I guess in simple minds it builds up confirmation, but for me it just multiplies the doubt.
Sorry if I'm waffling a bit in links recently. It's a sign I've got a lot of work on and are therefore procrastinating in fine fashion
