I thought it was Chang Mai, but I remembered wrong
Chang means elephant. Like the beer.
There's a famous temple (wat) just outside Chiang Mai, allegedly it was named when an emperor was given a white elephant as a gift, they let it wander around - it went up a hill, and they built a temple there.
I may have forgotten some of the details, that story might not be quite right. I lived there about 15 years ago. I knew that "Mai" means new, but I didn't know that "Chiang" apparently means capital city. Which is now rather confusing, as Bangkok is the capital - which is "Krung Thep" in Thai; also known as Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit for short. Meaning "City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra's behest.".
So it's the city of angels... same as Los Angeles. A lot of Thai people know that full name - mostly because it was the lyrics of a pop song.

I think he acted like an idiot
I don't know if there's anything more to it than that. I guess we'll find out from the court case. I'm a big fan of SpaceX, and I'm therefore excited to hear his announcements and love his achievements - that doesn't mean I like everything about him. I wouldn't say he's a total dick - everybody does dickish things sometimes. I'm not buying the idea that he did it to deflect from other stuff either; sounds a bit tin-foil-hat to me.
Same sort of thing regarding the shares. Maybe he'll get a fine or something. Mostly, I hope it won't impact on crew dragon/Falcon Heavy/BFR developments. Crew Dragon needs to start test flights really soon, to hit the April first crewed deadline. And after last weeks Soyuz accident, that's even more important. (Yeah, Boeing too, but having two is no bad thing.) And I'm really hopeful we'll see another FH launch this year, and maybe even a first BFR test...although realistically, that's probably gonna be 2019.

And regarding the kiddy-fiddling,
I knew lots of the bar-girls in Thailand, as friends.I used to hang out with them in their homes, learning the language. I never met any that were under-age, and never saw any of that sort of thing. I knew one who was 18; I knew like, 50 others who were between 20 and 30 or so. A lot look much younger than you'd think they are. My Thai g/f was 32, and looked about 20. I got shit over that from tourists, thinking she was a young bar-girl I'd picked up... but she was almost the same age as me. (And worked as a cook, FWIW.)
I'm sure the under-age stuff exists, like it does in England, but I saw no evidence that it's prevalent. I did see it in Vietnam, and that seems to be much more of the destination-of-choice for the kiddy-fiddlers; not Thailand - in my experience, anyway.
I spent over 4 years in Thailand, and was not once offered the chance of under-age girls - despite being in the areas where you might expect those types of offer. I was in Vietnam for only about a month, and was offered such "opportunities" more than once.
I'm not claiming Thailand is perfect - far from it. It's corrupt as fuck. But I didn't see any paedo stuff, at all.
[Top tip, it's a lot cheaper to buy a bar-girl drink than to pay for a language course. The only problem is, you learn to speak like a bar-girl, so you learn slang, like "yip" for "yee-sip", 20 Bhat. So you sound like a cheap prozzie. Fun ensues.]
