I want to get excited about the new Star Wars movies. I really do.
But they just have absolutely non of the magic, soul or story that made 4,5 (and even 6) so pivotal.
No doubt part of the reason I feel this way is due to the fact I'm significantly older and more cynical than I was when the first three were released, but there's more to it than that. The new movies are too polished. They're nothing but high-action SFX showcases. Part of the beauty of the original trilogy was how real everything felt. The Stormtroopers were a bit clunky, the ships and scenery were real, physical entities, and it showed. You can't mimic that kind of realism with CGI.
All the newer movies just feel very low effort. There's no passion there.
