I'm a musician and the only hi-fi I have now is in the car. I do now have a set of 'high def' headphones which are nice, but as I grew up listening to music mostly on a crappy cassette walkman, low quality audio has never bothered me and I've never thought a song was particularly improved by increased audio fidelity. If you have a very expensive hi-fi then I suppose you are only going to listen to music with very high production values and that's probably a bit limiting.

This is not entirely true. For an obvious example, most Aphex Twin music is not audiophile quality mastered, given his redisposition towards recording on casette decks and such. But do his incredibly complex soundscapes sound increasingly fippin' awesome on hi quality audio gear? Yes, the hell yes!

This is a normal post Indeed, SAW is my go to reference album when setting up audio gear because:
1) I'm very familiar with it
2) It has a frequency range that will reveal how the set-up responds at both the low end and the high end.
