I often think a decent benchmark for public figures' guilt is that they never attempt to sue for libel.
It's super easy to destroy someone on a libel case in the UK, and it only needs to have been printed in the UK for it to apply.

It's a good test of guilt, if the person can afford it.
Most people would be insane to defend a libel action without large amounts of cash.

You could really boost your case by saying you would pay the legal costs of the defendant if they lost.
