This is a normal post That was great thanks.
It occurs to me that I can't think of another filmmaker whose films aren't diminished no matter how much is revealed about their making.

This is a normal post Agreed. His obsession with the highest available technology (at the time) to facilitate his craftmanship is another level. The more you learn, the greater the films become IMO.
I wonder what modern technological revolutions he'd adopt or be pioneering if he were still alive (and a bit younger). Would he have converted to digital or still be shooting on film? The cameras he used were comparatively old at the time, so I wonder. How much would he have embraced CGI? Or would he have argued it simply wasn't good enough for his needs?

I mean he lived to see Jurassic Park... *googles what he thought of it*

This is a normal post Good questions, none of which I'd dare speculate about.
I've read every book on 2OO1 and still don't catch myself "knowing" how they did each shot whenever I watch it (except maybe the astronauts in space bit, but it's still fucking dramatic).

If he ever did get into CGI I know I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for doing the VFX :)
