Gore conceded in order to avoid the kind of catastrophe unfolding now. The Republican party of W, Cheney and Gingrich wanted victory at any cost. The Democrats were invested in ideas like national unity, international reputation, faith in strong institutions, etc. Republicans have destroyed all of those things, and will destroy anything else that stands in their way.
