And, as he pointed out in the video, at high speed your power needs go up literally exponentially. Air resistance goes up with the cube of the speed so for a certain bike and rider trebling the speed from 20 to 60mph requires twenty-seven times as much power to push air out of the way (rolling resistance not included). He quotes 40 miles range around town on that battery which isn't massive so to compete with a petrol bike doing 150 motorway miles at 70+ would need a trailer of batteries.

I was more wondering why he hadn't used the available space on that specific bike to maximise the range, and was thinking the strength of the frame/suspension etc. might have been the limiting factor.
The technology will get there - the Triumph TE-1 has a target range of 120 miles which I'd certainly start to consider. It also looks rather nice!

This is a normal post I think it's that he can remove the battery easily
Makes it easy to ride somewhere and chain up the bike and take the battery away, stop it getting nicked, maybe recharge it.

And, frankly, for the use he proposes for it the one battery is sufficient. It's a good proof-of-concept.
