This is a normal post I know someone who used to drive a Bond Bug
and I see one regularly in the carpark of the Dean Forest Railway - I think it belongs to a volunteer but I've never worked out whose it is.

In the case of the bug, I think it was a response to the petrol shortages of the 70s, but the minicar predates those... perhaps prompted by rationing?

This is a normal post Cyclecars, as they were used to be called, go back to well before the war
But just after the war, everything was in short supply. Cars were considered a rare luxury. Cars were build for export, and the few sold in Britain had an enormous purchase tax levied on them. That, combined with hefty road fund tax and insurance, left even modest cars out of reach of the plebs. Three wheelers however, were classified as motorbikes.
