This is a link post inverse binky
Did you ever feel that the Project Binky "stuff a massive engine in a tiny car" approach was doing it all backwards?

How about putting a lawn mower engine in a Honda Insight and seeing if you can get it up to 60mph?

This is a normal post It's not that long ago cars with tiny engines were quite common.
I present the Bond Minicar: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4ZKOPmeU7c
Up to the mid sixties, some 25.000 of these were sold.

If you want real cuteness and rarity, the BrΓΌtsch mopetta is the micro car for you.

This is a normal post Amazing that the article doesn't mention
Invacars were build by AC, the same lunatics that buildt the insanely fast (for its time) Cobra.

This is a normal post My mum's car was a Heinkel bubble car
Which also had a 200cc engine and no reverse gear, so parking had to be done carefully to avoid getting stuck in the car due to the door being the whole front of the car.
When I was very young it was known to carry the whole family of 6!

This is a normal post Are they still a thing in Europe?
I remember seeing something fairly recently about tiny cars you can drive in France without a full licence, and younger than 17.

This is a normal post I know someone who used to drive a Bond Bug
and I see one regularly in the carpark of the Dean Forest Railway - I think it belongs to a volunteer but I've never worked out whose it is.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_Bug

In the case of the bug, I think it was a response to the petrol shortages of the 70s, but the minicar predates those... perhaps prompted by rationing?

This is a normal post Cyclecars, as they were used to be called, go back to well before the war
But just after the war, everything was in short supply. Cars were considered a rare luxury. Cars were build for export, and the few sold in Britain had an enormous purchase tax levied on them. That, combined with hefty road fund tax and insurance, left even modest cars out of reach of the plebs. Three wheelers however, were classified as motorbikes.

This is a normal post Not so common if they only sold 25.
OTOH I appreciate the 3 decimal places of accuracy.
