In 2016 he decides that the joke has run its course, so decides to cut his losses and 'call it a day while the party is still going rather than hanging around to be that bloke at the end of the night scraping a tray of vol-au-vents into a binbag.'
A couple of years later he's back at it (presumably because the £25K office salary wasn't paying the bills) and now, over a decade after originally retiring, he's releasing 'official' videos for 14 year old songs for that extra £15-20 a month in YouTube revenue.
