This is a normal post Probably centralised extraction covering all the fume cupboards they work in.
When I worked at a polymer R&D centre, we had both fume cupboards and positive pressure ventilation in the labs. Air was pumped from outside and through vents in the ceiling, pushed the air in the room out.

This is a normal post Probably not as dangerous as it appears, from a inhalation point of view.
Welding cars is probably much more dangerous and commonly done. The metal spray is just that, metal. With welding vehicles, burning paint, underseal, zinc rust proofer, other metal fumes and that's before taking into account fuel lines, pvc insulated wiring, grinding etc.

The big bloke carrying mines is Harley, he's from Lancashire. It shows how far people will go to avoid living near Blackpool.
