I get their argument that it's also a Christian symbol used in the UK
But that spear makes it proper sinister. It's also unfortunate that it's currently used by the German military as a symbol of national identity.

Agreed.
The Iron Cross iconography is typically edgy UKIP, but I don't find it particularly provocative. Certainly not as provocative as the folk trying to compare it to a swastika seem to want it to be. The spear and shield combo in tandem with the cross is fucking bonkers, though.
