Have you tried finding the source of the egg?
"One in a billion chance" suggests to me that maybe there was something which causes it to be more likely in the hen's genetics. So maybe finding out where she got the egg from, which farms supply them and whether any of their hens have slightly rounder than average eggs might be an interesting project?
It could get dark fast if they're battery hens but that's related to the charity you're supporting.
