actually collies are working dogs...
and are happiest when working, my parents have one and she mimicks their walking pace, habits and she learns tricks very easily. She started giving us her paw without any prompts and will sit on her hind legs when asked.
Collies are incredibly smart dogs and dont require much coersion.

I suppose you could argue
that it'd be cruel not to teach them and give them the intellectual exercise that they need in the same way that it'd be cruel not to take them for walks.
