I use Twitter
and find it invaluable. I now tend to use it more than FB mainly because it's a different type of networking tool - for me, anyway. Twitter is all about work, FB is private and for mates.
And as others have said, you get out of it what you put in....
MySpace has proved invaluable for bands and musicians, Twitter is good for writers/publishers.
