I don't necessarily agree with everything he says
but I think it's important that a high-profile movie critic takes Hollywood to task for the amount of shit it's currently producing, while heralding more left-field movies that people would have ordinarily ignored - for example I would never have given Pan's Labyrinth a chance had he not banged on about it every week for a year.
For those who find him smug and opinionated, may I suggest reading the reviews in most mainstream tabloids where they give everything four or five stars because they have an advertising deal with the studio.
